Superintendent's Message for 2008-2009

by Robert E. Colby

The Strategic Plan of the Huron Intermediate School District has as its top-priority goal “Maintaining a focused commitment on the teaching and learning dynamic.”  As we go about our business of serving the essential needs of our local school districts, we recognize there is no more important function than to ensure the learning of every child.

Now into our third year of work with the Student Achievement Model, this comprehensive approach to teaching and learning looks to be our best effort at achievement for ALL.  A research-based, best-practice approach, the Student Achievement Model will help our schools maintain the highest quality instruction and a focus on student achievement even as the names and faces change.

Providing facilities that adequately and appropriately support teaching and learning is another goal here at Huron ISD.  This goal continues to be a challenge for us.  A funding request for renovating and expanding the Learning Center was narrowly defeated during this year.  We will do a better job of educating our community regarding the need and commit our best effort in this coming year to accomplish this goal.

This is just a peek at what Huron Intermediate School District is all about and what has gone on this past year.  We take pride in being the educational service agency our schools and community need.  Together, we commit to our mission of “Helping to Inspire Success and Dreams” for all.
